Warner Wada

My residency at Gardenship began in November 2020 following the reopening of the program after the COVID shutdown. I had recently retired as a professor of Art at Ramapo College of NJ where I knew Josh Knoblick. During the lockdown I had to suspend my ongoing architectural photography work 'Bedrock'. During the 10 weeks of self imposed lockdown, I began to 'rework' vintage tools that I inherited when my 93 year old ex trapper/railroad yard master Johnny Rohweder died in December of 2019. At Gardenship, I created a perspective interior for art installations. I also began 'reworking' various tripods that I have at my live work loft in the Garment Center. Many of the materials I used were saved when I had a custom artist design furniture partnership in the mid 90s with clients including musician Lou Reed, designers Y Yamamoto, and others. I have used the Gardenship environment including the back 'alley' and the surrounding shipyard 'skeletons' as location for installations.
