Gardenship is an artist-run collider space that fosters an ecosystem of creative discourse, exchange, discovery, equity, skill and support. Founded in 2019 and operating out of a two acre warehouse on Kearny Point, we offer a crucial and unique set of opportunities for artists that cannot be found in a single institution anywhere else. Gardenship’s space and facilities, including a wood shop, metal shop, welding, and iron forge, allow for creation on a massive scale and across countless disciplines. Although severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, our large footprint and offerings allowed for us to pivot our programs to community engagement and creation. In addition to our regular studio residency program consisting of 25 studios, we have hosted drive-in movies, dance performances, specialized artist-fabrication residencies, climate justice events, pop-up markets, iron pours, and educational workshops. Currently we are working on streamlining our offerings so they are more accessible to the community that surrounds us in Jersey City, Newark, Kearny, and NYC.
