IN 7

Annual Experimental Video Art Residency

Residency Concept
*  A 7-day experimental video art residency where site-specific videos are created at Gardenship, a massive warehouse that houses art studios in Kearny Point, NJ.  Artists are chosen to create a project that’s inspired by the site. Artists already working in video and artists that have never made videos are invited to apply. Some artists work primarily alone while other artists who need to collaborate with others are connected through the residency with videographers, editors, and musicians in order to make their vision a reality.

Residency Background
*  During the summer of 2020, IN 7 was created to fill the void that many of us were feeling due to the pandemic. Most of us were starved for a connection with our artist community and wanted to create collaboratively again and share our creations with others. By using Gardenship as a source of inspiration, we gave artists time, space, and resources to create an experimental video in 7 days. Hence the name, IN 7. It’s an artistic twist on a 24-hour film challenge which concluded with a drive-in screening. Following the success of the last four iterations, we are at it again with Part 5.

Venue & Location
* Gardenship is a collider space that fosters an ecosystem of creative discourse, exchange, discovery, equity, skill, and support. It’s located 7 miles from NYC situated between Newark and Jersey City in Kearny, NJ. Gardenship’s facilities include a studio residency program consisting of 25 art studios, a wood shop, metal shop, welding, and iron forge.  The massive space allows for the creation of pieces of massive scale and across countless disciplines. Nestled between the Hackensack & Passaic Rivers, this industrial area that houses huge warehouses has a rich history and is in the process of becoming a film production hub in Northern New Jersey.  Gardenship is a one-of-a-kind unique place that needs to be experienced and inspires everyone that steps inside it.
